The head of the Decentralized Department of Culture of Cusco, Vidal Pino Zambrano, said that during the month of February, the staff of conservative workers carried out works of maintenance of architectural structures such as enclosures, platforms, water fountains, retaining walls, platforms channels And others located along the Inca Trail.

In the same way, cleaning, extraction and removal of roots that affected the walls, removal of weeds and vegetation in the surroundings of the road, treatment of floors, bridges, pontoons and handrails were carried out.

Likewise, rehabilitation work was carried out on camping areas for the use of visitors. These areas were impacted during the past year by the large presence of tourists, rehabilitating the systems of drainage, reforestation and maintenance.

During the closing of the Inca Trail, cleaning and drainage clearance, protection of headwaters, rehabilitation and consolidation of stone stairways, treatment of rest areas and other work were also carried out, supervised by archaeologists specialized in the conservation of structures Prehispanic.

“I congratulate the staff of the Inca Trail Network for this enormous effort, as they have worked to overcome adverse weather conditions, such as the persistent rains, which hindered their work,” said Vidal Pino Zambrano.
During the month of March maintenance work will continue in secondary sectors that will not affect the transit of visitors, he added.
