Inca Trail Cusco 3 Days

Machu Picchu was connected with the city of Cusco and the rest of the Inca Empire by excellent roads with an ergonomic design. These roads were built in strict harmony with the natural environment and possess great beauty in their construction. Many roads were built on ledges and are surrounded by breathtaking landscapes with lush and varied vegetation and panoramic views.

The road that was built to Machu Picchu is known today as the Inca Trail and is considered one of the most spectacular trekking routes in the world. The traditional Inca Trail is about 46 km of journey (4 days walking) along roads, stairs and across  streams. The Inca Trail starts at Km 82 of the rail line (Cusco - Machu Picchu) at "Piskacucho". From there it leads visitors through the varied archaeological sites that are found along the route that ends at Machu Picchu.

Description of the Inca Trail Cusco

Itinerary:

Day 01: Cusco • Llaqtapata • Huayllabamba • Llulluchapampa.

You will be greeted at your hotel at 5:40 am and taken to 88 kilometer on the Peru Rail train line to begin the 9:00 am hike.  The walk will begin leisurely to ensure you are acclimated to the pace and elevation. First we will reach the archaeological complex of Llactapata (2.550 m.).  Then we will continue to walk through the Huayllabamba valley noticing the ecological changes as we ascend to Yuncos Chimpana and further higher to Llulluchapampa (3.750 m) where we will camp for the 1st night.

Day 02: Llulluchapampa • Warmiwañusca • Sayacmarca • Phuyupatamarca.

After breakfast and starting our trek we will be able to have wonderful views of the valley below and Huayanay (4.200 m) above. From Warmiwañusca, also called dead woman, we will be able to appreciate the small complex of Runkuraka (3.860 meters).  From here we will be able to appreciate the Sayacmarca valleys and snowcapped mountains.  We will continue on to the complex of Phuyupatamarca where we will camp for the night.

Day 03: Phuyupatamarca • Inti Pata • Wiñayhuayna • Intipunku • Machu Picchu

Rise for an early breakfast and visit the archeological complex of Phuyupatamarca.  Then hike 3 miles to Wiñaywayna and visit the Intipata Wiñaywayna complex.

Next continue until we reach Intipuncu or Puerta del Sol ( The Sun Gater) where we will dramatically see the Lost City of the Incas, Machu picchu.  After a short visit here we will continue to the town of Aguas Calientes and ascend to Machu picchu by bus for our guided tour.  You will have time to experience Machu picchu on your own after the tour before descending to Aguas Calientes by bus for your train back to Cusco. You will be met at the Cusco train station and driven back to your hotel in the evening.
