Choquequirao, or “Cradle of Gold” in Qechua, is known as a dazzling mysterious Inca city located amidst the beautiful scenery of the Cordillera Vilcanota in the Apurimac River Canyon. This place remained covered by thick forest for many years.
Walking to Choquequirao offers a wonderful hike through several ecosystems. We will enjoy beautiful views of snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba and the deep canyon of the Apurimac River. Finally we will rise through the lush vegetation to arrive at the citadel of Choquequirao.
Choquequirao has a large system of terraces, a feature of the Inca settlements, which aided in the agricultural use of the slopes of the hills, and which today, in view of the visitors, look like carpeted floors of the vegetation of the area.
ILE Tours encourages and invites you to participate in this beautiful, less traveled hike to appreciate more of the riches left by the Incas.
