Restaurant and hotel activity up 5.8% in 2012

Restaurant and hotel activity would rise 5.8 percent in 2012, compared to the estimated 9.1 percent growth this year, consulting firm Maximixe reported Monday.

It explained that the downward trend in 2012 has to do with global uncertainty caused by persistent debt problems troubling developed countries and tax adjustments as corrective measures.

This will affect the demand of these economies, and therefore, in their decisions to travel to Peru, having in mind that about 17 percent of foreign tourists who visit the county come from Europe and 20.6 percent from United States.

However, the flow of South American tourists, which account for some 55 percent of the total visits, will continue growing but at lower rates.

In September 2011, restaurant and hotel activity rose 10.4 percent, accumulating a 9.6 percent increase in the first nine months of 2011 compared to the same period last year.
