Peru could receive up to 5mln tourists in 2016

Peru could welcome around five million tourists in 2016 if the country boosts tourism in South America during low season, that is, in the first months of year, head of Peru’s National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) Carlos Canales said Saturday.

He added it is essential to deseasonalize tourism offer and attract groups of visitors from this region, taking into account that tourists from Brazil, Argentina and Chile use to travel between January and March, which coincides with our low season.

"We can easily attract those tourists by promoting the image of the country’s tourist areas," Canales said in statements to Andina.

Canatur´s head pointed out that these actions would improve tourism in the first quarter of the year to wait for high-season months (June, July and August), when European and North American tourists arrive.

"This way, the government’s target to reach 3.6 million tourists in 2016 would be exceeded," he highlighted.
