Peru Mucho Gusto´ festival to feature 200 traditional dishes in Tarapoto

About 200 traditional dishes from eight departments of northern Peru and the country’s jungle will be featured in ‘Peru, mucho gusto’ food festival, which will open tomorrow in the city of Tarapoto, San Martin.

Cesar Villanueva, governor of this region, said that the dishes belong to the departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Amazonas, Loreto and San Martin.

Attendees will be able to try Juane, rice seasoned with turmeric, and chicken wrapped in banana leaves; tacacho con cecina, grill roasted plantains with smoked pork; and patarashca, Fire roasted fish wrapped in banana leaves; among others.

The departments participating in the fair, which runs until Sunday, December 11, will also have the opportunity to promote handicrafts, customs and tourist attractions.

Peru’s Export and Tourism promotion agency (Promperu) reported that the fair is carried out as part of the Norte Pone (The North Rocks) campaign and expects to attract 15,000 to 20,000 people.
