Passenger traffic on international flights up 15.32%

International passenger traffic amounted to 4’785,802 passengers between January and October 2011, 15.32 percent up from 4’150,036 passengers the same period a year earlier, the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) reported Wednesday.

Only in October air traffic grew 8.72 percent to 491,647 passengers, compared to the same month in 2010 (452,206).

According to the DGAC, over the past ten years, October numbers have always shown an upward trend. However, the highest percentage growth rate recorded in this decade (32.97 percent) was achieved in 2004.

In October 2011 the most popular destinations were Santiago de Chile with 58,203 passengers (24.77 percent more than the same month in 2010), followed by Miami in United States with 47,193 passengers (-1.29 percent), Madrid in Spain with 46,244 passengers (-3.44 percent), and Buenos Aires in Argentina with 42,974 passengers (5.41 percent).

The number of passengers transported from Lima amounted to 20,885, a 9.35 percent increase over October last year.
