140,000 people from Lima to visit northern Peru for Christmas, New Year

Some 140,000 people from Lima will travel to several destinations in northern Peru for Christmas and New Year’s eve, on Friday noted the manager of Fiori bus station Erik Hidalgo.

Hidalgo told Andina news agency that over 180 buses will be ready to take passengers to locations such as Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Chimbote, Piura, Huaraz and Tumbes for the upcoming holidays.

“We expect to transport some 70,000 passengers from December 21 to 23 and 70,000 more from December 28 to 30,” he said.

Moreover, Hidalgo said that the passengers will be able to leave Lima in a safe and orderly fashion thanks to the work carried out by the Superintendency of Ground Transportation for Passengers and Cargo (Sutran, for its Spanish acronym).

“This institution will be in charge of checking if the drivers own a driver’s license, if the vehicle has the Mandatory Insurance for Traffic Accidents (SOAT) and if it exceeds the passenger capacity among other safety issues,” noted Hidalgo.
