Geographic Location
Chile is since a country tri continental it seats its territory in America, Antarctica and Oceania. It is located in the western and southern region of the South Cone of South America, being prolonged in the Containing Antarctic and reaching to the Island of Easter in the Polynesian, their limits:
- North: Perú
- The South: South Pole
- East: Bolivia and Argentina
- The West: Pacific Ocean
Total surface of the Territory: 756.096,3 km.², it excludes Chilean Antarctic surface territory (1.250.000 km.²) and the interiors marine waters.
The capital is Metropolitan Region of Santiago, modern city and cosmopolitan.
Their Administrative Division corresponds to 13 Regions, 51 Counties and 335 Communes.
Climate
Due to their great extension latitude wise, Chile presents diverse types of climates, among them desert, Mediterranean, temperate warm rainy, marine rainy, cold and polar.
The north of Chile is characterized by a dry and arid climate from the Big North until the Small North. The driest desert in the world, the Atacama, defines this part of the country.
The central area of Chile is characterized by its Mediterranean climate. In summer, the temperatures can reach the 38°C with little precipitation. In the winter season the temperatures are usually low and they give frequent rains.
In the areas South and Southern it exists a high index of rains and very low temperatures in winter. In summer season, the south is usually hot, but rains are presented during the whole year.
The Chilean Antarctica is characterized by its low temperatures. In the Antarctic summer the temperature varies among 2 to 0 °C, while in winter season it descends to less 50 °C.
In the South Pole during the summer the days they don't have night, although the situation is opposed in the winter. The tourist visits to the Antarctica are carried out in the summer (December to March), when the conditions of the time are favourable. However, in any moment you can present a storm of ice. The rest of the year, the conditions of the time make impossible the access of tourists.
The seasons in Chile:
Summer: from December 22 until March 21.
Autumn: from March 22 until June 21.
Winter:from June 22 until September 22.
Spring: from September 23 until December 21

System of Government
Chile is a Republic that is governed under a government of democratic cut. In the country it exists a clear boundary and independence of the three powers of the State. The executive authority is led by the President of the Republic, that in addition holds the position of Head of the State. The Judicial Power is led by the Supreme Court, the one that dictates justice supported in the Court of Appeals. The legislative power is bicameral. It is conformed by the House of Representatives and the Senate.
First it is conformed by 120 deputies of the 13 regions that conform the country, whereas the Senate, is conformed by 49 senators.
These three powers of the State frame their work in the Political Constitution of the State that was dictated in 1980. This constitution successively has been reformed with the objective to faithfully represent the changes that our society with the coming of the democracy in 1990 has undergone, date in which assumed the Presidency of the Republic, Patricio Aylwin (1990-1994) soon followed Eduardo Frei (1994-2000), both demócratacristianos, the Ricardo Socialist Lakes (2000-2006) and present Head of State, Michelle Bachelet, (2006-2010).
